Dear discerning video game fan,
As you’ve surely noticed, things are a little bit different around here. We--meaning Gaijin Games--have changed our name to Choice Provisions, and completely revamped our web presence in the process. I know that change can be scary, but trust us when we say that it’s for the best.
Allow me to explain why.
When Gaijin Games was founded in September of 2008, it was with the goal of creating the kinds of games we played in our youth. As it turns out, many of the games we grew up playing were developed outside of the US. This is what inspired us to brand ourselves as “gaijins.”
The name made sense, but it also carried somewhat of a negative connotation to it. No matter how you may feel about the word “gaijin” personally, I think it’s fair to say that some people out there view it as a negative term. Being the upbeat, positive folks we are, the last thing we wanted was for people to be offended by our name. We are but humble purveyors of video games, and the end goal of all the work we do is to make people happy.
Ergo, we’re changing our name to Choice Provisions.
You’re probably wondering what the full ramifications of this change are. Honestly, not a whole lot! We’ve swapped domains, updated all of our social media accounts, and we go by a different name now. That’s about all there is to it. In fact, all of our previous releases--the BIT.TRIP series, Runner2, lilt line, and Bloktonik--will continue to be offered as Gaijin Games titles. And when we develop a new BIT.TRIP game, we’ll release it as a Gaijin Games title as well.
But everything else is going to be released as Choice Provisions. Well, almost everything else. Robotube--a tiny little game developer we acquired back in 2010--has been rebranded as MiniVisions. This change will be reflected in all future Robotube titles, beginning with the soon-to-be-released Woah Dave! and Destructamundo. Speaking of, let's talk platforms:
Woah Dave! will be coming to 3DS, Vita, iOS, Steam, Ouya, and Fire TV. Keep an eye out for it this summer!
Destructamundo, on the on the other hand, will be coming to iOS and Ouya. Keep another eye out for it this summer!
With that addressed, let's talk about what you can expect from Choice Provisions! We’re ready to announce two new games--one of which should look familiar to longtime fans of the studio. Without further ado:
Laserlife - Laserlife is a metaphysical journey of euphoric sights and euphonic sounds. Players will guide a series of lasers to the beat of an electronic soundtrack, searching the vastness of space for the lost memories of a fallen astronaut.
Laserlife will be coming to a Steam near you.
Tharsis - Tharsis is a game of tiny decisions with huge consequences. It uses regular six-sided dice to model emergencies, repairs, research, collaboration, futility, and the madness that can only be achieved three days from the red planet with low air, no supplies, and an electrical fire in the greenhouse. Oh, and if you run out of food, you've agreed to eat Zach Gage.
Tharsis is coming to both Steam and iOS.
That about covers it! If you have any questions, feel free to tweet at us, post on our Facebook, or post a comment on this here site. We’ll be sure to reply!
