PAX East 2014 - A Photographical Journey

PAX East 2014 was an important conference for us. It was the first time we showed off our two new games--Woah Dave! and Destructamundo--to the public, and my personal first time ever going to Dunkin’ Donuts. The latter of those two things was by far the most significant, but we’ll save that for another blog post. Instead, I’d rather talk a bit about how the conference went for us, and how people reacted to our new projects. If you never got into the whole reading thing, feel free to just scroll down and look at all the pretty pictures.

Believe it or not, setting up a booth can be tough. Your games need to be easily viewable by the droves of people walking by, and they need to be situated in such a way that it’s easy for anybody to walk up and play them. And if you’re offering merch--as we were--it needs to displayed in a way that convinces people to part with the money in their wallets. Which sounds kind of evil now that I’ve typed it out.

In any case, we were happy with how our booth came together, and stoked that we had such rad banner art to promote our games with. Now, it was time to see what PAX-goers would think...

From the first morning forward, our booth remained consistently crowded. So much so, in fact, that on a couple of occasions we got in trouble for blocking the walkway around our booth. If that isn’t a good sign, I don’t know what is.

And because it’s PAX, we were visited by a fairly... eclectic group of people. From the protagonist of Journey (above) to everyone’s favorite painter, Bob Ross (below):

As great as these folks were, however, they paled in comparison to my two favorite visitors:

I’m no cosplay expert, but I think it’s fair to say that this is the best cosplay of all time ever.

After hours, we spent our time attending parties, chatting with other developers, and--most of all--searching for interesting food and beers. Lucky for us, we managed to locate a bounty of both. For starters, here’s a sampling of some of the beer we discovered:

If you live on the east coast, there’s a chance you’re shrugging and wondering what’s special about these beers. Fair enough! But as someone who resides on the west coast, they were all new (and delicious) to me.

Our trip to Dunkin’ Donuts--which was my first time--was equally as fruitful:

Having acquired donuts that would inevitably pave the way to diabetes, it was time to return to the convention...

...Where we won an award! The fine folks at Press Pause Radio awarded Woah Dave! the “Best of the Indie Megabooth” award.

If you’re still reading this, I applaud your attention span. And if you were one of the awesome people who stopped by our booth at PAX East, thank you! We were overwhelmed by the positive reception, and we can’t wait to release both Destructamundo and Woah Dave! to the masses. We’re aiming for a summer release, so be on the lookout!

Hey, everyone!

Every week we receive a couple of emails from YouTube personalities asking whether they're allowed to post videos of our games, and if it's okay to monetize those videos. Our answer, on both counts, is a resounding yes.

Go forth, and create some rad videos.
